Hexatronic is proud to share the remarkable achievements of Hand in Hand Kenya's Community Uplift Program (CUP) in Chawia village, which we have supported over the project's 30-month period. This initiative has empowered local entrepreneurs, created jobs, and fostered sustainable development, improving the quality of life in the community.
178 enterprises and 229 jobs created
As the project concludes, Hand in Hand has significantly supported the community in uplifting their daily incomes. Through intensive training in entrepreneurship, credit access, value chain, market linkages, and climate resilience, Hand in Hand successfully created 178 enterprises and 229 jobs. These enterprises range from poultry rearing, grocery shops, and soap making to kitchen garden farming and goat rearing. Hand in Hand Kenya's Community Uplift Program, supported by Hexatronic, has not only met its ambitious targets but also transformed the lives of many individuals in Chawia village.
Inspiring journeys
Through intensive training and support from Hand in Hand, community members have embraced entrepreneurship, overcome challenges, and remarkably improved their livelihoods. Here are two inspiring stories that highlight the initiative's impact:
Rejoyce Kilola, a 59-year-old poultry farmer and member of the Mapatano Women's Group, has embraced various business opportunities since the start of the project. After selling her broiler birds, she reinvested her earnings into local breed chickens, now owning 52 laying hens. Her goal is to expand her flock and become a chick distributor. To overcome the challenge of acquiring an incubator, she is saving with local farmers to purchase one. Rejoyce reflects, “My interaction with Hand in Hand has significantly improved my life. The training enhanced my saving skills and allowed me to grow my enterprises."
Agripinah Ishika, a wife and mother of four, has considerably improved her farming. Known for her excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous record-keeping, which she developed through Hand in Hand's training, Agripinah has made notable strides in her farming endeavors. She successfully harvested maize and beans, planning to reinvest her profits into expanding her poultry farm. Additionally, she uses water-efficient gardening techniques to grow vegetables, providing a steady income during the dry season. Despite facing challenges with water scarcity, she is exploring solutions like purchasing a water tank. Reflecting on her journey, Agripinah says, “I am grateful for Hand in Hand's dedication. Their support has helped us grow significantly, and we are no longer at the same level as before receiving training.”
